I think everyone enjoys a happy ending. Boy meets girl. Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. And then they ride off into the sunset. But what really happens? Do we always see the genuine tale? Do we really see truth in the happiness that is created in these magical worlds? Sometimes, I truly do not believe it – that these stories have actually happened. But ideas have to come from somewhere. Can it come from experience? Or does it come from hope?
This legend begins with a man. A man that remains nameless unto this day. This man loved passionately. Not just anyone though, his princess. Who was this royal lady: his imaginary love. This man loved day after day someone who was non-existent. Some would say he was crazy, but mostly no one knew who he was.
This man had a heart pure as gold. But his suffering was endless. His misery had become too much and he needed an escape. So with his loneliness, he spilled his heart, but not publicly, in his journal each evening. As he would write, he’d imagine his day as he wanted it to be. He would spend endless hours throughout the night trying to perfect his hopeless days. We experience his soul with these words:
“The brute awoke to the sunrise shining in his face, but as he rose he realized this sunrise was not just the sunshine. It was a girl. What was she doing in his home of misery? Was she here to show mercy to his life of mercilessness? This ounce of hope caused his body to arise from his bed and walk over to the woman. Oh, how beautiful she was: her hair flowing, her eyes glowing, a true beauty. She was all he ever wanted”.
Love was his obsession. Literally, all he thought about, everyday. But there was an ultimate question: Why did he not have a maiden of his own? He was passionate. He was caring. He was charming. He loved.
But just four words caused his loneliness.
He was a leper.
